Dope Wars (PC) review"Dope Wars is a unique stock-market type game, to say the least. In Dope Wars, you still follow the age old adage of ''buy low and sell high''. It's an update of the old skool games Druglord and Drug Wars. However, you're not trading stocks in this game. It's more like ''precious commedities''. *wink wink nudge nudge*" |

If you haven't gotten my drift, in Dope Wars, you trade various forms of illegal drugs. They range from the cheap ectasy to the medium range acid to the highly expensive (and big money maker) cocaine. Name any exotic drug and you can find it in Drug Wars.
You start out from one of the five cities with 1,000 cash on hand and 5,000 in debt. You venture from part to part of each city, looking for places to buy drugs for low prices and sell at high prices. With the default trenchcoat you can hold a quantity of 100 drugs. Along the way from part to part, you can purchase handguns (to deal with pesky cops) and larger trenchcoats.
Dope Wars is menu based with no graphics. There are small little sound effects here and there, but nothing to enhance the gameplay. If the game has a downside, it's that there isn't a ton of variety, and there's no graphics and weak sound.
Much like the things you're trading, Dope Wars is highly addictive. It's a fun little program, around 500 to 700k download, and it's free (donations are optional though).
This is not a game for the easily offended. If you can't handle a game that makes dealing drugs a light and easy thing, don't play this. This is NOT meant to be an accurate simulation of the drug world. So just because you make 8 million dollars in the game doesn't mean you should quit your job at Denny's and become a kingpin :)
If you like small little programs that you can play while downloading (like me), Dope Wars is an EXCELLENT choice. The fact that it's free, small, and takes up very little memory makes it a mandatory download. A search on any major game site (download.com) should produce several links.
