Looking for a great collection of classic board games? Want a quick way to play your favorite classics, but don’t wanna spend money buying all the real sets? Want to play board games but without all the real mess? Well if you said yes to any of those questions, you’ll definitely want to check out this game, and continue reading my review.
Sounds & Music
Very, very sparse. You’ll hear a few chimes and whistles for completing things, a few background noises, and the click clacks of laying chess and checker pieces, but that’s about it for sounds. Music isn’t very broad either. You can change what music you’re listening to in the options at any time, which is nice, but there are only 4 tracks to choose from. Rock, classical, pop, and jazz. Four tracks about four minutes long before they loop again. If you’re playing board games for hours on end, it would be nice to have decent music to listen to, but not the case here. These tracks are not catchy at all, and you’ll quickly want to turn them off. I haven’t seen a game this lacking in the sound category for awhile. It’s too bad though, because music is quite a large aspect in a game like this. Oh well, just listen to your own tunes then.
Score (4/10)
Graphics
One would not expect much quality in the graphis of this type of game, but Ultimate Board Game Collection manages to capture how each game looks quite well, while adding a number of peaceful backgrounds and locales to play your favorite games in. You can play chess by a cozy fire, and yahtzee outside on a sunny day. Menus and options are clear, and crisp, and also easy to navigate. Quite well done, for a board games game, but not amazing.
Score (6/10)
Gameplay
You can already guess what the game is about by just reading the title. You’ll be playing 20 classics that include checkers, mancala, yahtzee, chinese checkers, chess, connect four etc. All the best board games are here, and many variations as well. You can change the backgrounds, music, amount of players, computer difficulty, as well as variant types of games and modes in games like yahtzee. The games (if you like them) are all fun and easy to play, so if you think you’d enjoy playing some of them, and the game is worth the price to you, by all means buy it.
Games List: Chess, Connect 4, jigsaw puzzles, Mancala, Enigma, Backgammon, Reversi, Chutes and Ladders, Battleship, Trouble, Yahtzee, Dominoes, Go, Chinese Checkers, Word Cubes, Mahong Solitaire, Anagrams, Memory, & 3-D Tic Tac Toe.
Score (8/10)
Conclusion
In the end, Ultimate Board Game Collection offers a wide array of classic games to play, while giving the player a number of nice options and different ways to play each game. The music department is sorely lacking, but it doesn’t ruin the game or anything. So if you want to play your favorite board games on the PS2, there isn’t a better choice than the Ultimate Board Game Collection.
