My brand new wish list: 2023 edition

A funny thing happens when you buy almost no video games for a few years...

I like video games, but I've not done a great job lately of buying the ones I want. Going back several years, I've told myself, "I'll get that eventually," and then I haven't. The trend kicked in hard in August of 2020, when I made a conscious effort to focus more on writing my fiction, but the neglect had already started ahead of that.

Anyway, I've now fallen WAY behind. So I decided to make a new wish list, which I'd not done in a long while, and I limited myself to 52 titles (one for each week in a year) that I'm most irritated about not yet acquiring. Here it is:

My tastes can tend toward the eclectic side, but obviously I have a thing for Nintendo's games, and for the sort of games that appear primarily or exclusively on Switch hardware. Although I have an Xbox Series X, there's just not much happening from Microsoft quite yet that I find difficult to ignore. Hopefully, that will change soon. I know they're working on a new Fable, but that has been true for years and they haven't shown anything concrete.

Most of the games on my above list are available physically. I've stopped collecting games physically on most platforms, Switch aside, so I would try to acquire any of the PS4/PS5 stuff digitally. A lot of it would just keep going a collection that already includes earlier stuff in one series or another... from back when I was collecting more aggressively.

Now that I know what to buy, I suppose the main thing left is to get the money to do it. Which, honestly, is a big part of why it hasn't already happened. I didn't just decide to stop buying games in 2020. My finances had a say in the situation, too, and it's not like sometime since then, I've won the lottery. Anyway, now I have a list somewhere that I can consult whenever I find myself with a surplus of money to spend on games. What releases from the past few years are you all thinking you'd like to buy for your collections?

Holy smokes, that's a lot of games.

I'm going to hijack your topic and see if there are even a handful of games I'm looking forward to getting. (Probably my issue is two-fold: I don't lust after many games, and when I do want one, I get it right away.)

Street Fighter 6
Silent Hill 2 Remake
Alone in the Dark Remake

Maybe that's it?

Did you watch the Twitch stream on Street Fighter 6 today? I'm not sure I like the tour mode or whatever it's called, but I do like the game's general vibe and the fighting between favorite characters looks like it should still be good. I was glad to see Deejay included right from the start, and Cammy.
