I'm glad this version exists since the Turbo CD version was never really an option for me (though it did appear on the Wii virtual console at some point). I remember all the 10/10 reviews calling it one of the greatest games of all time. I thought it was decent fun, if pretty frustrating at times. Ys I had some really insane bosses - the vampire bat thing forced me to give up for a few years. Ys II was a good step up and I found it easier overall. But compared to what the series becomes in later installments, this one is really just a curiosity. Glad I finally got a chance to play and finish the introduction to this series.

Yeah, most RPG series introductions are more curio than anything these days. Over the last few years, I've replayed Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Phantasy Star, and they're all decent in their own way, but they feel so ancient in comparison everything else.
