Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector's Set has lots of things

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition image

Didn't you know? They started at II because sequels sell better.

Have you heard? Street Fighter is turning 25 this year, and Capcom is celebrating with a great big box of Street Fighter stuff.

The $150 package includes a whole bunch of games, of course. Specifically Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, and Street Fighter X Tekken. The package also includes all of the costume and character DLC for Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter X Tekken, though the announcement doesn't mention if the palette swap DLC for Street Fighter III. Yes, yet another Street Fighter anniversary collection is being released without the game that's actually celebrating its anniversary, the original Street Fighter.

Of course, for $150, there's a lot more to the package than just a quartet of fighting games. It also includes a bunch of other stuff:

- A two-disc bluray set with the Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV anime movies, the Street Fighter animated series and Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.

- An 8-inch Ryu statue in mid Shoryuken, with the flames lit from below.

- An 11-disc soundtrack with various Street Fighter tunes, including both in-game music and fan arrangements.

- A 64-page artbook with official and fan art.

- A full-size replica of Ryu's belt. Private wind for persistent backwards flowing not included.

- A certificate of authenticity to prove that you didn't fake your massive Street Fighter merchandise collection.

All of this can be yours for $150 on September 18th, in both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.

Right. A certificate of authenticity to prove you actually would spend $150 dollars on a bunch of plastic and coasters. Oh, and a belt.

I'm being facetious. If you love Street Fighter, that's actually a lot you're getting for that price. On the other hand, I know a lot of Street Fighter fans who argue over which game is the only playable one, but I don't know any SF fans who like all of the games. So getting a bundle of all of the games seems like it would go to waste.

I was browsing Amazon today and happened to come across the 25th Anniversary page for this game, then I started reading the "Includes..." image that was included when something caught my eye: you still have to download Street Fighter III and II Turbo HD Remix. That seems pretty damn lame and lazy to do for an Anniversary collection. What if the people who bought this don't have an Internet connection, or maybe a really crappy one? They're gonna lose out on two games and quite a number of other downloads for something Capcom wants them to pay $150 for.

Edit: What's funny is that II Turbo HD Remix is included in the Capcom Digital Collection disc release that came out 2 months ago. So it's something they can do, but won't.

Double Edit: I also find this incredibly ironic considering the last Anniversary collection they did before this was a disc release of Street Fighter III and Street Fighter II.

Would of been nice if it came with an arcade stack, what a gift that would make! Otherwise it seems pricey for a pile of old games.

I wuv my tournament edition stick.

There's a LOT more to it than a "pile of old games."
