The beloved fighting franchise will swing into action once again next year.

SNK Corporation's president announced today that a new Samurai Shodown title (known as Samurai Spirits in Japan) is headed west in 2019. The game marks the first new installment in the series in more than 10 years.

Samurai Shodown is "the premier weapon based versus fighting game" and you surely have it to thank for following genre hits such as Soul Edge. At one time it pushed boundaries, and that's what SNK hopes to do once again with the new release.

"Developed using Unreal Engine 4 and utilizing a unique brushstroke graphical style to match the Japanese roots of the series," reads the press release, "Haohmaru, Nakoruru, Galford and a whole cast of other popular characters will battle once again for victory!"

SNK plans to reveal more information closer to the game's actual release, whenever that might be. In the meantime, it has revealed a teaser website and shown off a first trailer for the fighter. Are you anxious for another Shodown?
