Tales of Vesperia review (X360)Reviewed on July 29, 2011Even when it stumbles - and make no mistake, it stumbles - it's hard to not like Tales of Vesperia. It's big, dumb, JRPG fun. |

Mass Effect 2 review (X360)Reviewed on June 10, 2011Mass Effect 2 is remarkable for being perhaps the best existing example of How To Do A Videogame Sequel Correctly. |

Metroid: Other M review (WII)Reviewed on December 30, 2010Metroid: Other M tells two stories. One is the story of Samus Aran, galactic bounty hunter - a story that is objectionable because it is poorly written and incompetently executed. The other is the story of Yoshio Sakamoto, videogame developer - a story that is objectionable because it keeps barging in on Metroid: Other M. |

Limbo review (X360)Reviewed on August 19, 2010Limbo is a neat little oddity of a game. It is at once fleshed out and involved but also unrelentingly minimalist. It's a 2D puzzle platformer in the truest sense - your task is to get from one end to the other, your tools are limited to movement, jumps, and "action" (usually grabbing things or pressing buttons). Everything is presented in a black and white style that manages to convey an impressive amount of detail despite being limited to soft, blurry (beautiful) silhouettes. You'll learn more... |

Batman: Arkham Asylum review (X360)Reviewed on May 28, 2010I don't know how this game turned out the way it did. It shouldn't exist. It's a glitch. An anomaly. In all the best possible ways. |

Final Fantasy XIII review (PS3)Reviewed on May 08, 2010Final Fantasy XIII is a game that would like nothing more in the world than for you to believe you enjoy playing it. Its simple list of wants does not extend as far as actually being enjoyable; it is content to pretend, to lie about a lie. |

Sonic Unleashed review (X360)Reviewed on January 31, 2010At first, I couldn't figure this game out. I mean, in the few moments of clarity in which I felt like I could get my head around the possible thought processes that might lead to a game like Sonic Unleashed, I caught myself wondering how the two completely contradictory ideas therein even came to exist within a single development team working on a single game, and then I had to reboot. |

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time review (XBX)Reviewed on December 06, 2008The brainchild of Jordan Mechner is undoubtedly among the icons who defined the term "oldschool"; Prince of Persia is right up there with Sonic and Mario and the like. The original Prince of Persia, released in 1989, was a masterpiece of technology and even now, despite technological advances, the original game still looks great and plays very well, even in the context of the new generation. There are two things about PoP that stuck in the mind: one was the fighting system, and the other was Pri... |

Prince of Persia Classic review (X360)Reviewed on December 06, 2008Almost 20 years ago (1989 to be precise), Prince of Persia blazed onto the gaming scene and was successful enough to create an entire subgenre of games, the Cinematic Platformer. Besides featuring fun puzzle and combat gameplay, Prince of Persia was notable for its precise controls and fluid animations, with each movement of the Prince and his various short-lived adversaries compared extensively with filmed footage to ensure the most realistic possible animations. To put it another way, Prince o... |

Sonic the Hedgehog review (X360)Reviewed on December 05, 2008Sonic The Hedgehog has been run into the ground by his creators as fast as he once ran along it. That was not a retrospective comment about recent Sonic games generally, that was a comment about Sonic '06, referred to as such to prevent any of the following comments from being associated with the original Sonic the Hedgehog, a memory Sonic fans must cling to now more than ever. |

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 review (X360)Reviewed on December 05, 2008I once demonstrated Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 to a person (you all know someone like this) who has no knowledge, let alone experience, of games, who still is unconvinced that they constitute anything more than toys for overgrown children. After the initial realization that there was actually a game in progress under all the flashing lights and loud noises, his first actual comment was, and I quote; "this looks very playable." I think if the phone hadn't rang immediately afterward he may eve... |
